5 Questions To Never Ask A New Mom

3 Questions to Never Ask a New Mom-2

When it comes to talking with new Moms about their new bundle of joy; some people can say the weirdest things and most of the things people say/ask can be down right intrusive, insensitive or no brainers. So if you are wondering what to say to a new Mom besides Congrats, here are 5 Questions To Never Ask A New Mom…

  1. What are you feeding your baby? Breast vs Formula is always up for debate.  So this question could make a new Mom feel uncomfortable and no one should be made to feel a certain way about the choice that they make in which milk they choose to feed their child.
  2. Are you getting any sleep? This is a “no brainer”. The answer is no. A better statement to say may be, “I’m praying that you’re able to get rest soon”.
  3. How much weight did you gain? Really…what kind of question is that? Why is that important to you. Yes, women gain weight and yes they try to get it off. The amount of weight gained shouldn’t be of importance unless the new mom wants to share with regards to her weightloss journey.
  4. Are you back to work yet? This may not seem like a bad question, but you may not know the circumstances around whether a parent is staying home or going back to work after baby. Thus, its best not to ask this question, as it may be a sensitive topic. The Mom may not be ready to go back but has to or vice versa.
  5. Are you planning to have more kids? Again another intrusive question. It is totally between the husband and wife if they are planning on having more kids. You may not know what a couple has been through to conceive and have the kid(s) that they have, the couple may not have planned for the kids they have, or the couple wants as many kids as they can have…again their choice and no ones business.

I have been asked all of the above and thankfully, I have been able to just smile and let it roll off…with minimal annoyance. Most people mean no harm… so if you are wondering, here are 10 Ways to Help a New Mom!

Have you ever asked or been asked any of these?

  1. I’m not a mom, and I don’t know anyone close to me who’s had a baby, but I would never ask these questions just out of pure privacy and respect! But I know a lot of people actually do ask these questions… which is just crazy to me! Like, why do you need to know how much weight I gained though? Haha craziness…
