Week 2: An Incredible God
Job 38:4-7
New International Version (NIV)
4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone—
7 while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels[a] shouted for joy?
The story of Job (pronounced Jobe) is interesting. He was a man of great wealth and within a short while he lost all of his wealth and most of his family. The verses above begin after Job has questioned God about his situation and God responds! His response is a set of rhetorical questions where God basically says to Job, ‘you really don’t know who I am because if you did, you would not have questioned me’. So often, when things go ‘not so’ according to “our” plan in our lives, we tend to question God on why this or that happened…it’s our human nature. But God wants us to know him so well that his awesomeness is magnified above and over any life situation!
How humbling that must have been for Job! God, the maker of the Universe, who spoke the world into existence wants us to know that he knows and cares about all that we go through and that he is more than capable of taking care of us. By acknowledging how big God is, we make everything else that much smaller! Be encouraged!
