When picking out something to wear, have you ever wondered what colors actually “match” or “go” together?! I have a neat little cheat sheet for you and it’s simply the color wheel! You may have heard of the color wheel if you’ve had an art class. The basic color wheel is a wheel showing the relationship between colors, consisting of primary, secondary and tertiary colors.

According to wikipedia, the typical artists’ paint or pigment color wheel includes the blue, red, and yellow primary colors. The corresponding secondary colors are green, orange, and violet. The tertiary colors are red–orange, red–violet, yellow–orange, yellow–green, blue–violet and blue–green. Mixing primary colors makes secondary colors. A primary and secondary color makes a tertiary color.

Now that you know about the color wheel, you can use it when pairing different colors together to create a look. This will allow you to go beyond your usual color combinations and maybe even be ahead of the next color combo trend! Here are some examples and it is no surprise that the colors look great together because they follow the wheel!

Primary Colors: Red-Yellow
Secondary Colors - Purple and Green
Tertiary Colors: Blue-Green

Which color combo do you like best? Which one will you try?
