Week 28: Contend for the Faith {Previous Weeks}

Jude 1:3
“…contend for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints [the faith which is that sum of Christian belief which was delivered verbally to the holy people of God].”

According to Merriam-Webster, the word “contend” means to strive in opposition or against difficulties; struggle. Therefore, to contend for the faith means that no matter what, we must stay in the race, strive or fight, to hold on to our Faith!

The Christian life is a faith walk, which means that for everything that happens, we must believe and trust that God is with us and in the end, we always have the victory. Life is hard at times and sometimes we may feel like giving up. But as I’ve mentioned so many times before; giving up is easy…staying and fighting is the hard part but we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. The question is, do we have the faith to believe it?

So how do we contend for the faith? By daily prayer and reading of God’s Word. Seems simple enough but the problem lies with so many different things competing for our time and attention, that we end up not spending adequate time in those areas. If we make it a priority to spend time with God; we will be able to fight the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12), as the bible describes. We will be so full of God’s Word that when hard times arise our faith will be strong enough to stand!

So I encourage you to contend for the faith….fight to stay in God’s Word and in prayer! With all the things going on in the world today; we need to stay as close to God as possible!
