Developing Godly Character

Definition of Character – Merriam-Webster : the way someone thinks, feels, and behaves : someone’s personality.
Godly Character is taking on the character of God, how he thinks, feels and behaves. We learn God’s characteristics by reading the Word of God and studying how he/Jesus handles life situations throughout the Bible.
Most often Godly character is built during challenging times and typically during interactions with others…in our relationships. This could be marriage, parent/child, work, church or any other relationships you may have.
Proverbs 27:17 (AMP) Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend [to show rage or worthy purpose].
For instance, any of the following interactions would qualify: unfair treatment in your workplace by superiors or co-workers, an overbearing husband or wife, unruly children, etc.
And the perfect indicator of where you currently stand with developing Godly character is noticing how you respond to difficult people. When someone wrongs you, do you seek revenge or do you pray for them?
Matthew 5:43-44 (AMP) 43 You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy; 44 But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
This is a good way to check ourselves because developing Godly character does takes time and prayer. But the bible says that we should mature in godliness and character.
Matthew 5:48 You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete [b]maturity of godliness in mind and character, [c]having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect.
I love this because it has helped me take each difficult person or situation as an opportunity to grow in Godliness!
I think one of the hardest challenges for many people is ‘dealing with difficult people’ and this is a good reminder of how to positively approach those situations. We should all strive to continue our personal development.

You’re exactly right, the ultimate test of character is how you respond to negative and difficult people. It’s definitely a skill that takes development and maturity.
Definitely takes time to mature in! Thanks so much for visiting!
