Embracing "Lovely" Curves

I began my love for the fashion icon Marilyn Monroe years ago, as I became fascinated with how she is thought to be so beautiful yet she was a curvy size 12 (some say). This hit me in the late 90s, when the look of models were paper-thin girls that almost appeared to be bones under skin and I found myself in the comparison game of what was deemed to be pretty or not. Myself, being of the more curvier type said WOW, she (Marilyn Monroe) is gorgeous and she’s a size WHAT?! It was, and it is, just so cool to me that size didn’t matter!!!  So cheers to Marilyn, a fashion icon that has inspired the curvier women, like myself, to embrace the “Lovely” Curves that Make You, “You”!!

Here are 10 Fashion Lessons We Can Learn From Marilyn Monroe, as adapted from TLC.

10. Embrace Your Curves – If you got them, you must work them!

9. Accessorize – I love accessories, they can add so much flavor to the most simplistic outfit.

8. Find Your Signature Style – This can be challenging for some people, but just be you and be comfortable with it. For me, I’ll throw a belt on with anything & that’s my signature.

7. Wear Red – I love Red (Go NC State Wolfpack)! As far as red in my wardrobe, I wouldn’t trade anything for my Red pumps.

6. Accentuate a Beauty Mark – Ha, ha! I used to draw a beauty mark on my face with eyeliner when I was in high school. I was then trying to imitate Mary J. Blige, now I find that I naturally have one…umph, ain’t that something!

5. Short Hair is Sexy  – Here, I say all types of hair can be sexy and that includes Natural Hair!

4. Be a Sweetheart – Sweetheart necklines are beautiful, go out and buy one!

3. Put on a peep show – I love peep toe shoes, I think they should be a staple in your shoe collection.

2. Bare your arms – I’d say only if they are tight and toned (smile)!

1. Structure Your Look – I’ve been asked and accused many times and even had hands put on me to try to discover if I was wearing some type of shaping under garment! What a compliment (I guess) but honey, NO, I don’t wear any shaping wear, my curves fortunately fall all in the right places and with some exercise they stay that way! But if you need a shaper, get one!

I enjoyed writing this post, hope that you enjoyed reading it!
