We Homeschooled during Spring Break! I know…we had to though. We took a week off after my Dad passed away during the Fall of last year, so we needed to make up the time. But it wasn’t so bad. Being that I didn’t want the kids to totally miss out on having a break, I decided to do a light week of school. We kicked off the week with a Field Trip Exploring North Carolina History.
I had been wanting to get the kids to Tryon Palace since last school year but with a newborn is was seemingly impossible. So we finally did it! It felt like more of a break…we all had a great time while learning a bit of North Carolina History. It helped that we had a yummy lunch at one of my local favorites and ended the day with homemade ice cream from another local spot.
Exploring North Carolina History
Cost: $20 for Adults, $10 for Kids 1st – 12th Grade, Free – Kids Kindergarten and below for the Day Pass.
What It Gets You: Admission to Governor’s Palace, historic homes, museum galleries in the North Carolina History Center, and more than 16 acres of breathtaking gardens.
We chose to do the Governor’s Palace Tour first. We started with a few self-guided tours of the Kitchen and Stables.
The Palace Tour was 45 minutes… we were able to get a good sense of how the Governor and his guests lived at that time by seeing the common sitting areas, bedrooms and kids and servants rooms. Our guide was very knowledgeable describing and explaining the decor in each room with respect to that time.
Then we visited the Gardens…
Then over to the North Carolina History Center. The kids so enjoyed The Pepsi Family Center where they were able to do some interactive activities.
