There is no doubt in my mind that there are some people that really want to experience God in fresh new ways. Those who want to see Him in light of what we see going on in the world around us. We want a “fresh wind and fresh fire” experience with God.
We want to be able to choose joy despite our circumstances. And we want to share the goodness of God and choose faith over feeling despite what we may truly feel.
But experiencing God, seeing Him in light of and despite of what is happening in the world, sharing His goodness and choosing faith over feelings, can only result from time spent with Him.
So today, I’m sharing a few ways that will help us experience God in fresh and new ways. And maybe for you, these may even be simple reminders.
1. Time with God.
We cannot expect to feel close to the Lord yet neglect to spend time reading and studying His Word.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
“Be still, and know that I am God:” Psalm 46:10 KJV
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” James 4:8 KJV
2. Rend our hearts.
We cannot expect revival if we neglect to allow the Lord to search our hearts. And to rid us of all the things that we’ve placed ahead of Him.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 KJV
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 KJV
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 KJV
3. Repentance.
We cannot expect a refreshing and a renewing from the Lord if we have neglected to come before Him in repentance.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9 KJV
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11 KJV
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 KJV
4. Prayer.
We cannot expect direction or wisdom from the Lord if we do not go and ask him in prayer.
“Never stop praying.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 NIV
“But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].” John 16:13 AMP
Each day we can move from glory to glory in the Lord when we seek Him. And search for Him with all of our hearts. But if we neglect to do so, we may easily find that our relationship seems dry. And has become a bit stale.
May you stir our hearts Lord to seek you even the more while you may be found. As we spend time with you, rid our hearts of things that are not like you. As we repent and as we pray, Lord may you send the fresh wind and fresh fire of your Spirit. Allowing us to experience you in the everyday and in every way of life.
