Our soon to be 10-year-old is super competitive…I have no clue where he gets that from (Me looking up to the ceiling)?! Just kidding both my hubby and I are mildly competitive. But one thing that happens when he’s not winning sometimes, he is whining.
We deal with this in a few ways. One way is by praying over him and by praying with him. And we share with him verses and stories in the Bible that we can apply in our day to day lives.
We also share stories from our own life experiences in how we’ve dealt with the same things. And how it’s gone bad at times and how it’s gone well sometimes.
It was funny, he actually reminded me the other day that emotions are not sinful, but we can’t let them control us. I was like yesssss, where did you learn that, lol!! He told me that it was a lesson from eKids from the story about Jesus flipping the tables. I’m telling you; I love this kid!
Now, “Goliath Must Fall: Winning the Battle Against Your Giants” For Young Readers is a great resource to affirm what we are teaching our son about overcoming the Goliaths’ in our lives.

Hey now! I stopped right there and gave God a praise…my son just laughed. But I was excited that he already knows that God is bigger than the giants.
Our son found the colorful descriptions of Goliath’s clothes and armor very interesting and enjoyed reading about it. He has passed the stage of ‘pulling teeth’ to get him to read. And when a book interests him, he goes for it. And
I can say that this book captured his full attention. Although, he kept stopping to read to tell me all the interesting parts of the book that he was reading. I didn’t mind it though.
He loved how certain words were defined right on the page…he says he didn’t even need a dictionary. So yes, the book is absolutely written and geared towards young readers, ages 8-12.
And, our reader falls right in the middle! I totally recommend this book. Our son is enjoying it as a great read but most importantly learning about Jesus in a fun and relatable way.
