Great SCOTT! Chores Made Easy!

Life Skills are a part of our homeschool curriculum. And life skills include household chores, in a nutshell. So, with school starting up in a few weeks, I made chore cards for the kids in order to keep track of their daily chores.

So, throughout the day they move the task(s) they complete from the left side of the chore card to the right side. At the end of the day, my hubs or myself check to see what’s done. At the end of the week, the kids are rewarded with allowance.

Our youngest son is in charge of checking the bathrooms each day to see if they are in need of bath tissue.

But of course, we have to make sure that we have some in the house. Since it was time to grab a few items for the house, we stopped by our local BJ’s Wholesale Club. It’s our place to bulk shop for our family of 6. We picked up the new SCOTT® 1100 Bath Tissue while we were there. I found it at the end of Aisle 8!

As you can see, there are now 100 extra sheets per roll. Getting more per package, 3 extra rolls per pack to be exact, means savings for our family. Which equals a WIN for us! Search for SCOTT® 1100 Bath Tissue coupon here to save on an already low price!

I’m a huge proponent of “A place for everything, everything in its place.” as quoted by Benjamin Franklin. So, keeping the extra tissue in a location where our son can reach the bath issue is one thing and having an area for him to replenish the tissue is another. Now, for organization, we have bath tissue towers in each bathroom but needed extra storage to organize the rest of the tissue. Since we had been storing it in random places, I purchased a few baskets to organize the bath tissue so that our son could find and retrieve the bath tissue better.

I filled the large basket with bath tissue to be placed in the laundry room and the smaller basket to be placed underneath the sink in the kids’ bathroom for easy retrieval. Also, the baskets make for cute décor for the bathroom.

And it helps our little helper with his chores. Our little is tasked with keeping the bathrooms stocked with 1 bath tissue roll on the dispenser and 3 on the tower.

Thankfully for him, he won’t have to replace them too often since we’re using “America’s longest lasting roll”.

Now to make the chore cards…

How to Make Chore Cards

Materials: Card Stock, Ruler, Marker, Fine Tip Sharpie, Wooden Clothes Pins, single hole puncher.

  1. Take a sheet of card stock and divide the sheet into 3rd’s using a ruler.
  2. Cut the card stock. Repeat for the number of kids that you have.
  3. Write your child’s name at the top of your cut card.
  4. Make a list of chores for each child.
  5. Write one chore on a wooden clothes pin, using a fine tip sharpie.
  6. Hole punch the top of each card so that you can hang it for easy access for the children.
  7. Place the pins onto the cards and you are ready to start using it.

    1. Yes, same with us (always running out of tp) so it is a perfect chore. Thanks so much!

  1. I hate finding an empty roll of toilet paper on the holder. I like your idea of making it a chore to make sure there’s never an empty roll. This would be a perfect job for my 4-year-old son.

    1. Thanks so much Rachel! It would be perfect for your 4 yo. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  2. The chore cards are a great idea. We would use these in school when I was a kid for cleaning up classrooms at the end of the day and they worked quite well.

  4. What an awesome idea and adorable as well. We always keep extra rolls of toilet paper close by.

    1. Thanks so much! And keeping extras close by just makes sense :)! Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Great idea! I need to try this with my son. And, nice meeting you last night at Mary Poppins. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Sarah and it was so nice to meet you!

  6. Love the chore cards!
I really love how the rolls are individually packaged. I feel like that protects it more. Never knew they did that. Thanks.

    1. Thanks so much! And yes, I love that feature how they are individually packaged as well!

  7. I love the simplicity of this chore card, so easy to DIY. We definitely need this for Maddie. She’s been having so much screen time and Mario suggested that she start to earn her screen time. This would help.

I also like this chore in particular for her age. I’m sure she wouldn’t even feel that restocking the tissue was actually a chore, lol.

    1. Yes, chores is a great way for the kids to “earn” allowance and/or other fun extras. And yes, it’s such an easy chore for their age but so useful for us around the house.
