Haleo Luau Dinner & Show

During our recent trip to Hawaii, we contemplated on whether to do a Luau because you can essentially find one in what Hawaiians call the Mainland US. But when we heard how authentic the Haleo Luau is, that is offered by our resort (Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa) and how historically rich it is; we decided to purchase tickets to attend. Let me tell you, were not disappointed. Wow, this event started our vacation with a cultural immersion of what Hawaii really is, from tidbits of history to authentic Hawaiian cuisine to music and dance! The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Aunty Tutu (Stephanie Lindsey), a native of the island and so knowledgeable of the Hawaiian culture and history. We so enjoyed her narration and story telling throughout the trip.

As mentioned at the start of the dinner,  a traditional Hawaiian Luau is a celebration of family…of marriage, birthdays, anniversaries… So at our dinner, guests announced what they were celebrating: some were on their honeymoon, lots of birthdays and anniversaries. Being that we were there for our anniversary, we were recognized. It was so sweet and we all took the opportunity to meet and chat with those around us like family, which was cool because when you ran into them later in the trip, you felt as if you knew them. We also had the opportunity to chat with the dancers prior to the show, learning the Hula dance, Hawaiian stamping, Hawaiian bowling and other activities. I would definitely recommend this event to anyone visiting the area.

  1. This is one of the things I miss about us staying in Hawaii. We lived in Hawaii for 3 years from 2007-2010 and had the opportunity to go to so many of them. It’s a great way to learn and educate yourself on the Hawaii culture. My favorite is the luau at the Polynesian Center. It looks like you all enjoyed yourselves.
