Week 6: It’s Only Temporary, {Previous Weeks}
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (English Standard Version)
17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
LIFE…Living Intuitively For Eternity! Life within itself brings so many different challenges and in so many different facets. Whether in the home, on the job, relational, etc, challenges are ever-present. John 16:33 says “…in the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration…”. Trouble is inevitable!
Thankfully, verse 17 of 2 Corinthians tells us that the afflictions that we face are momentary, meaning they are temporary. Additionally, this temporary discomfort will not be comparable to the things God has for us. The second part of verse 17 says that the afflictions are preparing for us an eternal weight of glory. What does that mean? In the end, that affliction itself will afford us a greater quality of life, a goodness brought to us by our Father God, in which we will give him praise!
So if you are being challenged, be encouraged that “it”, whatever it is will not last always! Continue to press, trust and pray through it! This is accomplished by keeping your focus on God and not the problem. Verse 18 says to focus on the things that are not seen, that’s your faith in God. Before you know it, no matter how tough it seemed at the time; you will find yourself on the other side victorious! In fact, speak that now! In all these things, you are more than a conqueror!
I can’t tell you how much this post just lifted my spirits and made me remember that God is always with us and he never leaves our sight. That with every storm there comes a calmness and light. Thank you. thank you for this incredible and uplifting post.
This is so awesome! We have to stay encouraged. There’s so many things in this world that can bring us done but God does have our back and we must remember that always. Stay encouraged!
This was one of the scriptures utilized recently at my father’s funeral service. This devotional explains it very well. I like this perspective. It is telling us to “hold on” and God will see us through it all. Actually, all of the things of this world are “temporary”. We often put so much energy into everyday worries, what people think of us, and other insignificant things. We sometimes forget to have that faith of a mustard seed. We forget to remember that God has brought us to it to bring us through it. Thanks for this message.
Thanks so much Patrice for stopping by and for sharing! I’m sorry to hear about your father and I pray God’s comfort for you and your family! And you are absolutely right in that all of the things of this world are “temporary’! The only thing that will remain and stand is God’s Word and that’s why we can find comfort, safety and stability in it…I pray that you have a blessed week!
