Have you ever prayed, then the answer came, and you were like… what in the world is this?
Because the answer to the prayer wasn’t quite what you were expecting.
Like, I didn’t think it would happen like this.
I didn’t think it would be as painful as this.
Or, I thought it would look a little different than this.
Have you been there?
Yeah, me too!
You see, most often, we think the answer to our prayers will come easy, with no inconvenience, with no struggle, or opposition, and at no cost to us. Because most often, I believe, we think that God thinks as we do.
Sometimes we think we have the best solution to our problem or situation. And with our actions and words, we try to tell God, in the form of our prayers what He should do or how He should answer our prayers.
But Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”.
You see sometimes we’re knocked back into reality…like Girl, God don’t think like you.
And to be honest, I’m so glad He doesn’t.
I can recall a recent prayer of mine where God surely answered. But the prayer was totally answered in a way I would have never thought.
There were some questions during the process.
I had to push away some doubt and fear.
And y’all, I even cried.
But my prayer was answered.
Not in the way that I thought it would be.
But it was answered. In the best way because Father God knows best.
See, the answer to our prayers may look totally different than what we envisioned. So, we must remember that God in his infinite wisdom knows more than our finite hearts could ever perceive.
I love this advice from friend Stevie Swift. She says, “Pray and leave the outcome to God”.
So, Lord help us to continually trust in you. And when we pray, help us to leave the outcome to you.
