On the hills of news today of Maya Angelou’s passing at age 86; I wanted to share quotes from one of my favorite books that she wrote, “I Know Why A Caged Bird Sings“. The truth is when I was ‘required’ to read this book in school years and years ago; I didn’t grasp its full meaning. But now after some of life’s experiences, I do grasp them. And Her words are so powerful and encouraging…
I hope these quotes speak to you as they do to me!
“Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst, and unsurprised by anything in between.”
“Anything that works against you can also work for you once you understand the Principle of Reverse.”
“Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.”
“Life is going to give you just what you put in it. Put your whole heart in everything you do, and pray, then you can wait.”
“She comprehended the perversity of life, that in the struggle lies the joy.”
“But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.”
Rest in Peace Maya Angelou….
My deepest love for an awesome women of harmony.
Yes Vanessa…such and awesome woman!
I was so devastated to hear that she passed, she was one amazing and inspirational woman. A true legend and we will all remember her for so many wonderful things. She was a single mother, business woman, fighter, and overall an incredible human being. I loved this book, it’s one of my all time favorites and these quotes truly come in handy. She may be gone but she will never be forgotten. Great tribute to her.
Same here, so very sad to lose someone of such great influence to the world!
