Must See Hawaii Big Island (Part III)
Must See Hawaii Big Island. I am soooo late publishing this final part but here goes..
Hawaii Big Island is 267 miles around the entire island. Basically, it is about the size of the state of Connecticut. We took a tour of the island that lasted a little over 10 hours…yes, you read that right, over “A 10 Hour Tour, A 10 Hour Tour”! And we still only scratched the surface of all the cool spots based on the locals and transplanted residents. We had an awesome tour guide that you will get to meet in some of the other posts.
So that you don’t miss the awesomeness of each location of this tour, I’ve broken this tour post up into 3 parts, with 2 attractions per post! I started this 3 part series last summer and never completed it. So here goes the final attractions, Part III… you’ll definitely want to see Part I and Part II.
Part III: {(5) Volcano Park and (6) Black Sands Beach}
Volcano Park
The park itself was so educational, giving us some of the rich history of the Island and the history of it’s volcanos. It was so amazing to see a real life active volcano. Interestingly enough, in recent news (like days ago), there has been volcanic eruptions here and lava is less than 2 miles from hitting the ocean.
You never knew what you’d see at each location though. Here’s a coffee bean growing outside the volcano area. Who knew that a coffee bean looked like a cherry…I didn’t know that either and I’m a coffee lover.
Also, while we were there, we toured an actual lava tube…a cave type area that was created by molten lava.
Stay tuned on my YouTube channel for video snippets of this part of the tour.
Black Sand Beach
Who knew that there were actual beaches with different color sand than what we see on the inland beaches. I sure didn’t. According to our tour guide, the ‘black’ sand is created by lava rock. There’s also a green, red and blue sand beach.
Stay tuned on my YouTube channel for this part of the tour.
So where have your travels taken you lately?
