Natural Hair – Protective Style #3
One way to protect my natural hair from the everyday wear and tear is by installing weave and/or hair extensions. I also use it as a way of changing up my look. I have discussed protective styles previously here {Protective Style #1} and here {Protective Style #2}. For this hair install, I used the KIMA Classic 100% Human Hair Quality (and Premium Fiber Blend) Volum, Harlem 125 Remy Touch in hair color number 2. The package claims the hair to be soft (voluminous, lustrous, velvety touch), light (shed free, easily create style, comfortable feeling) and special (free closure and bang piece). It came with 2-18in and 2-22in bundles, closure and bangs; for all you need in 1 pack.

Pros: Inexpensive, It looks and feels like Remy hair (which is much more expensive), somewhat versatile to style and easy to manage.
Cons: Very Thin Weft, which made it hard to sew in. It would probably have worked best for a quick weave using glue. It also did not really curl as the package states and it does shed.
For the install, I braided my natural hair, leaving out the edges to allow for the versatility of wearing the hair up or away from my face. I covered the braids with a wig cap as a way of protecting my hair and scalp. Then sewed the hair onto the braids in a circular pattern. It took soooo long to sew it in; about 4 hours! It usually only takes 2 hours or less. I attribute the additional time to the thinness of the weft.
Here is pics of the braid pattern:
Now here’s a few looks of the install:
I’ve had the hair installed for 1 week now. It is easy maintenance…I simply put it in one braided bun and wrap my hair up at night with a satin scarf. In the mornings I apply a gel (if needed) to my natural edges and smooth with a brush. Then just brush out the hair and I’m ready to go.
Would I purchase it again? Yes! You get what you pay for and in this case, the pros outweigh the cons!

You never cease to amaze me! Beautiful!
Thanks Nicole :)! You’re a sweety!
Super cute! I love the way you twisted your leave out section. It’s been a long time since I wore straight weave. I usually go for curly hair. But I may have to try this out (^_^)
Thanks Nikell! I thought of twisting the leave out sections last minute but it turned out to work really well…gives the illusion that my natural hair is straight but of course it’s not. My daughter’s summer camp teacher thought I had permed my hair :)! Nope, still natural!
We’re a mix of natural hair and online experts but above all we’re consumers like you and understand how overwhelming and confusing it is to navigate the endless quantity of naturally curly hair products on the market. Despite the huge number of products it is still difficult to find quality products for the woman with naturally curly hair.
Thank you for stopping by!! I am currently a very satisfied subscriber to Curlkit…awesomeness!
I LOVE this. If I was little braver, I’d try this myself. I’m not quite this advanced!!
Thanks Mionna! I’m about ready for my curls again though!
