Week 34: Ordered Steps
The steps of a good man are ordered by The Lord. Psalm 37:23
Many are the plans of a man but it’s the Lords that prevail (Proverbs 19:21). We all make plans whether it’s for our day-to-day tasks or for a longer term, but it is important to keep in mind that it is the Lord’s plans that will trump ours every time. It is in this truth that we can actually take comfort in, knowing that God is all-knowing and that his plan is better than ours. For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord (Jeremiah 29:11).
The good news is, we don’t have to walk around in the dark…feeling like we are just aimlessly wandering around. I believe that as we seek the Lord and draw closer and closer to him, his plan is revealed to us. We will never know the whole picture while we are here on earth. The bible says for now…we see through a glass dimly but one day we will know (I Cor 13:12).
So until then we continue to seek the Lord and allow our steps to be ordered by him. To be ordered means to give an authoritative direction or instruction to do something. It means that a task is done according to specific principles or procedures. In order for our steps to be ordered by the Lord and to follow his plan for our lives, we must follow his Word. He says that if you love me you will keep my commandments (John 14:15) and that the Spirit will lead and guide you into all truth (John 16:13). The bible, God’s Word gives us authoritative direction, instruction and specific principles and procedures for life. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that “(16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
Through the Word, we are able to stay in tune with God while we are on our journey; so when he says turn right, we can turn right without hesitation. So often, we take turns that were never intended for us and during those times we find a dead-end or even a construction zone. We then feel disappointed at what seems to be a closed-door but it is at that point that we must again seek the Lord through his Word, and draw closer to him through prayer and worship. The more we know about the Lord, the more we trust him…the more we trust him, the more we know that his plan is far better than ours…so we learn to enjoy the journey and wait for the “instruction”, the “direction, the “ordering” of our steps by the him.
Be blessed Lovelies!
