Our Choice to Homeschool

Homeschool-Blogpost

Our Choice to Homeschool. Earlier this Spring our daughter says, Mom, I wish I could be a homeschooler. I wasn’t quite sure where that came from but I very sincerely said, well I’m sorry but I don’t see that happening… Little did I know several months later that we would seriously be considering it. We had thrown around the idea before to place the kids in private Christian schools and it was really just a matter of when.

Several months ago, during a service at church, our Pastor was teaching on changes that were taking place in our culture. It wasn’t a new topic because our world is constantly changing but at this service as I remember was following the Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriages. Well the argument was compelling, our culture and world is changing and if you are able to homeschool your children or put them in a Christian school, now is the time. I felt so moved at that moment (as times before)…that I’m supposed to homeschool our kids. I couldn’t believe it, me, who thought at one point that homeschool was too different and wondered if “those” kids lived sheltered lives. Well there are so many people that I know now that are and were homeschooled, who went off to college and are doing well and even more so, after leaving home, having a firm foundation on the Word of God and prepared for the world we live in. That’s what we want for our kids.

So it’s about to go down, our 1st year of Homeschool starts TOMORROW!

With this unexpected change, it was really important for me to have a mission and vision for our school because I know their will be people that don’t understand our decision and simply just wonder why and for the days when I, myself begin to wonder and forget why we started the journey, these statements will help me stay focused.

Our Homeschool Vision

That our children grow to be God-conscious individuals that are spiritually, socially, emotionally and educationally prepared for the world.

Our Homeschool Mission

To develop and nurture God-conscious children by teaching them the Word of God, Christ-centered educationally sound curriculum, life-skills and by participating in volunteer opportunities and extra-curricula activities.

So, as an encouragement to myself and others who are starting this Homeschool journey, remember why you decided to do what you are doing when it gets tough or when others may question your decision. You are ultimately responsible for your children, their well being and how they are prepared for life once they leave your home.

Let’s Do This!

  1. You know I love this. I desperately want to homeschool (or do private school) from kindergarten through to fifth grade (possibly through 8th). I’m praying God puts me in a position to do so. So happy to hear that you’re planning to homeschool, and I look forward to hearing more about how it’s going and learn from you a bit once I take it on ;)!

    1. Super cool Nicole, it’s so awesome!

  2. It’s always a great feeling when you know that you know you’re in the center of God’s will for your family. Have a great year!

    1. You are absolutely right Michelle! Thank you so much and thanks for stopping by!

  3. I don’t have children yet, but I’ve thought a lot about this actually (I like to think ahead). I don’t know that I would want someone else’s influence over my future child, especially with the way things are going. Good for you!

    1. It’s great that you are thinking about it in advanced…so smart! Thanks so much and thanks for visiting!

  4. I commend and admire parents who have the option to homeschool. As a single mom it has never been an option but I pray over my son daily and hope that the Christian values that I’ve instilled in him will withstand the many influences that he encounters. After years in public school we are giving a charter school a chance. Unfortunately, the one Christian charter school in my area just wasn’t a good fit and an educator there were way too many unlicensed teachers. Hope you all have a great school year!

  5. As a military family this is something I’m contemplating as well. My kids currently go to a private preschool but I know we will have to discuss this in the future. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Thank you and thanks so much for stopping by! I pray that God gives the wisdom on what your next steps will be!

  6. I think it’s great when people homeschool. A family friend from church is homeschooling this year and she was on FB asking for prayers. I never realized how much of an internal struggle and prayer it took.

    1. I had no clue about the internal struggle and prayer it took either but God is So faithful in all things! Thanks so much for stopping by!
