I noticed a few old scars the other day. The events which resulted in those scars immediately came to mind. One scar from a failed stop on a pair of roller skates, speeding downhill around 8 years old. The other from a minor day surgery 10+ years ago. You see, scars have stories.
Both scars still visible, both healed.
And both tell their own stories.
Though many scars are not painful, they remind us of pain which we overcame, from a particular injury.
Per the Cleveland Clinic, scars are a result of the body’s healing process. They come in all shapes and size and over time, most fade away.
But just as we have physical scars which can be visibly seen, most often we have invisible scars. Mentally and spiritually. They also come in all shapes and sizes, from hurts, trauma, grief, and challenges which are tucked away. Some fresh, and some fully healed.
As most scars fade away over time, our healing comes over time.
Whether spiritual, physical, or mental, I trace my healing back to the One who is Healer. It was God who healed my body. God who healed my mind. It was God who healed my heart.
Not to say the healing was instantaneous. For me, it absolutely wasn’t. Most often, the healing took work. I like to say, soul work is hard work. You may have heard it said; it may feel like you’re breaking before healing comes. But let me tell you, the freedom you receive afterward is so worth it.
Yes, scars have stories. What’s yours?
Or maybe you need healing. I encourage you to go to God, to start the work. Take all your cares to Him because He cares for you. And I encourage you to find “your people”. Those who can come along side you in prayer for healing. Those who can lift you up and encourage you through the process. Find scripture that promote healing, meditate on it and prayer the scriptures.
I love this verse: “Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.” Jeremiah 17:14 NIV
