“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13 NIV
For years and years, I don’t know if I believed that I could or would see the goodness of the Lord here on earth.
Experiencing devastating loss, one right after another. It knocked the wind out of me, and it challenged me to the core. It challenged my belief that anything good could come from all of these terrible things I experienced.
I mean, I was breathing.
I was still alive. So, that was a good thing.
That was a start, right?
And sometimes, that’s just where we have to start. Then with intention, we must keep our thoughts on the good.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
In this the Lord allowed me to see each day as a gift. Then I begin to think about how God was with me, how He comforted me and gave me peace every time I called on Him. That was a gift.
Now maybe you’ve been there or you’re there right now. You find it hard to believe that you will see the goodness of the Lord from where you’re sitting. I just want to tell you that you’re not alone. You’re never alone.
I pray that God opens your heart, in the ways l He opened mine, to see His goodness even through grief and even through hard and challenging times.
It’s true that when we search for Him, we find Him. Even in the midst of the hard place. Even in the midst of the trial.
Because we can’t outrun God’s goodness.
Even when we can’t see it, it’s still there.
But I pray you see it and I pray you believe you have it. I pray you experience it even now. The goodness of the Lord.
