“There is One that is coming.”
These are the words of John the Baptist.
Words spoken by the one who’s voice also cried out in the wilderness, “prepare ye the way of the Lord”. The voice of the one who leapt in his mother Elizabeth’s womb while Jesus was still in the womb of his mother’s cousin Mary.
John the Baptist could be considered an evangelist of his day. He even had followers and disciples of his own. He knew his place. And he knew his Kingdom purpose.
Instead of being intimidated or jealous of Jesus, John the Baptist pointed ALL that came to him, to HIM, the One that was coming after him.
“And he was preaching, saying, “After me comes He who is mightier [more powerful, more noble] than I, and I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the straps of His sandals [even as His slave].” Mark 1:7
Jesus did come, as John the Baptist had proclaimed. And John baptizes Him.
“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”” Matthew 3:13-16
You see John the Baptist prepared the way for the One who was to come.
And Jesus did come.
He came, not to be served but to serve. And He came, not to condemn but so that through Him, we could be saved. And He came to seek and to save the lost. He came to take away the sins of the world.
There is One that is coming. Words that are still relevant today.
Because there is STILL one that is coming. And His name is Jesus.
He is coming again. And He is still so worthy. He is still powerful. And He is still able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can even ask or think!
And He is coming for a church. A Bride. A people. With clean hands and pure hearts. Hearts that are for Him and not against Him.
There is One that is coming. And His reward will be with him (Revelation 22:12 NIV).
There is One that is coming. His name is Jesus.
