As the Easter season is here, I’ve been in constant reflection of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. I began thinking about his pathway to Calvary and my heart got so heavy. Then I became overwhelmed at the thought, for every step that he made toward the cross, he thought of you and me! He thought of us, knowing that by becoming a sacrifice, his death would give us the opportunity for eternal life.
Luke 24:46-47
New International Version (NIV)
46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
The Via Dolorosa (Way of greif/Way of pain) is said to be about 2000 feet and the cross is said to have weighed about 75lbs-125lbs. As Jesus was too weak to carry it alone, the bible says that Simon Cyrene is made to carry it for him (Matt 27:32, Mark 15:21, Luke 23:26). Can you only imagine what that must have felt like for Jesus to carry the cross after being beaten until he was unrecognizable (Isaiah 52:13-15)! I cannot imagine! But I do realize the love that he has for me and I will live the rest of my life forever grateful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the Via Dolorosa and dying on the cross for me!
You can do so as well!!!
Romans 10:9
New Living Translation (NLT)
9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
