Rest – We all need it!! It’s just as important as exercise. My intention for the start of this week was to start my 30 miles in 30 days challenge, plus start a scaled down version of P90X by doing only 30 days. As of today, I have not worked out this week. I’ve been a little under the weather due to seasonal allergies. With the welcoming of Spring, came the pollen and with the pollen came nasal congestion, watery eyes, sneezing and headaches.
But instead of counting it as a loss, I am counting it as a rest break! I’ve been hitting it pretty hard for the last month or so and sometimes your body cues you that a break is needed. It’s good to note that rest, not only means physical rest but also mental rest.
Here is an awesome biblical reference for rest that can be applied to physical, spiritual and mental tiredness.
Matthew 11:28-30 (AMP)
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.
30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.
This is the rest that I need!
