We are currently in Holy Week, the week leading up to the observation of Easter. When we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus. And Passover was observed prior to Holy Week, as a time to remember how God delivered the children of Israel from the tenth plague on Egypt.
From the story in Exodus, we read that the Israelites were instructed to take lamb’s blood and spread across and on the door posts of each home. By this indication when the angel of death came, it would “pass over” their homes and they would be protected.
I was thinking about this the other morning.
How we wish, we hope, and we pray that bad things would just pass over us.
But most often, no matter how much we pray, wish or hope, bad things still happen.
We don’t know why, and we wonder why.
But they do.
Bad things happen.
The Bible tells us that in this life we will have trouble.
That bad things will still happen.
And that there will be bad days.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV
Jesus has overcome the world!
Now you may ask, as I have asked, what does that mean for us?
Or what does that look like for us when we experience trouble.
When we experience hard times?
And when we experience loss, despite our prayers?
The short answer.
It simply looks like faith.
Faith to believe that our God is still sovereign.
No matter what happens in our life.
And no matter what life brings.
No matter the trouble that we face.
And no matter how unfair the situation or the circumstance.
But it does not mean that it feels good.
And it does not mean that it looks good.
It does not mean that we deserved the pain.
And it does not mean that God put the burden on us.
Or that God caused the pain.
But it does mean that God is with us.
It does mean that God will see us through it.
And it does mean that in the end we will have victory.
It does mean that we will overcome.
Because in Him, even in death, we are victorious.
“and the Ever-living One [living in and beyond all time and space]. I died, but see, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of [absolute control and victory over] death and of Hades (the realm of the dead).” Revelation 1:18 AMP
So although bad things happen. God is always with us. Even until the end.
And that makes all the difference.
“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:20 KJV
