Chores for kids
Chores for kids. I don’t remember doing chores as much growing up. Being the baby of out of 4 girls, I moreso saw my older sisters doing them and of course my mom. As my sisters got older/moved out…my mom continued to do them. For the most part, I only had to keep my room clean and I still remember my mom doing laundry and washing my bed linen every Saturday. I know it would have been beneficial if we all had helped out more… from taking out the trash, cutting grass, doing the laundry etc as we got older. Not sure if my mom had the mentality of ‘if you want it done right, then do it yourself’. Maybe I’ll call and ask her lol!
Our kids have been doing chores like picking up in their rooms since they were each 4 or so. Now that the oldest will be 10 this year and the boys 8 and 5; and with the addition of our littlest; the hubs and I knew we had to step up our chore game!
So my hubs found a pretty cool listing of chores by age that we adapted for our kids!

Also a few other things that surely help me out, is having taught our oldest how to do her hair. I mean she has tons of it, so teaching her how to detangle, moisturize and style it has been a glorious feet! We are now working on doing more cooking.
How do you assign chores for your littles?
Yes, love this and we’re definitely into chores early on! The way Madison’s room is currently set up we don’t fold her laundry. It’s sorted into baskets that go into baskets within cubbies. She’s learned where pants go, where shirts go, where panties, socks, etc. go, so after washing laundry she can sort and put away her on clothes. When she’s old enough to really fold then we’ll switch the system to doing so. Call me/us lazy, lol!
That’s just one example of how she helps out around the house. There are plenty more and simple tasks like these that she seems to actually find enjoyable….at least for now. There are some things from your list I’ll be incorporating and this will definitely be useful down the road!
That’s great Nicole! I’m gonna keep what you’re doing in mind for Izzy. Such a great way to get her involved earlier on.
