Week 24: Encourage Yourself {Previous Weeks}

I Samuel 30:6…but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

We all have days when nothing seems to go right, when trouble seems to come on every side, when it seems like you can’t see the sun because of all the clouds! During those times it is so easy to get down and discouraged and cry, “Whoa is Me”! David, mentioned in 1 Samuel 30, had every right to be down and out…his family was taken captive during an invasion against the city along with the wives, sons and daughters of his comrades. The people were so angry at him that they wanted to kill him…I think that classifies as a bad day! Well instead of sulking; the bible says that David encouraged himself in the Lord.

We should take David as an example the next time we are having a bad day and encourage ourselves in the Lord. How do we do that? We encourage ourselves in the Lord by meditating on scriptures. Here are a few to meditate on this week…

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
  • Philippians 4:8 (KJV) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
  • Matthew 28:20 (KJV) … lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
  • Romans 8:37 (NIV) No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
  • Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV) …for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Be Encouraged!!
