Travel season is among us. And I know you are thinking, where to this year? I know we are. By now we would have already booked our annual family vacation to Disney. But we are changing it up a bit and I’m not quite sure where we’ll land. But one thing I do know, it will be well planned and fun for all! So, today, I thought I’d share some need-to-know, Family Vacation Travel Tips.

Family Vacation Travel Tips

Budget. Like everything else that you plan to spend money on, you should always budget for it. So add in a vacation budget into your overall budget for your family. And use and stick to the it as much as possible when planning your vacation. This helps to narrow down where to stay, what to do, where to eat, etc.

Book Ahead. It’s no secret that the closer it gets to your desired travel dates, the rates may go up. This is especially true for flights and beach hotels. Some places may even sell out, if you are traveling during peak season like we typically do. There are so many options when it comes to vacation booking. So start early to get the best deals and rates.

Meal Plan. When you’re traveling with the family, especially kids. You want to take as much of the guess-work out of it as possible. So meal planning is a must. No this does not mean ONLY cooking. I mean…who wants to cook during their entire vacation. We love to take a look to see what the popular restaurants are in the area. Especially by just looking at Food Network site like Triple D. So add in a combination of meals to cook as well as places to go out to eat.

Itinerary. Like with meal planning, it’s always a good idea to have a plan for what activities you would like to enjoy during your trip. Be sure to make time for REST as well as quiet time for the kids. No one will have a great time with cranky overly tired kids. Microsoft has simple easy to use travel itinerary templates.

Packing Guide. If you have a large family like ours, you’ll want to utilize a packing guide for where ever you’re going. If you’re headed to the beach, use a beach packing guide, to the mountains, grab a mountain trip packing guide. You get the picture. I’m telling you, this will save you time, as well as unnecessary trips to the local area Walmart or Market.

I do hope that these tips were helpful. Do share tips of your own to add to this list. Any Happy vacationing!
