I could care less…
Have you ever heard these words?
I’ve heard them a few times.
And I’ve even said them a few times.
Those times when you simply get tired of caring so much. Or too much. And you are just DONE.
Now, I don’t know if that’s really a thing.
To care too much.
But it can feel that way, at times.
Like when it seems you care more about a person than they care about themselves. Constantly praying for change and breakthrough in their life yet they seemingly do nothing to help themselves. That is a challenging place to be.
Or maybe when you find yourself caring about some “thing”. Maybe a job, a project, even a goal that, in the grande scheme of it all, will not matter as much in the end.
Or when we care too much about what others think. When we place the opinions of others above the opinions of God.
In our humanness, we can care too much or we can began to not care at all.
Even as it concerns the things of God.
But this is precisely why I’m so glad that God is not like me.
Honestly, I am glad that He is not like any of us.
Because we get tired too easily.
We want to quit too soon.
And most often we give up just short of our breakthrough.
Although we are encouraged to not grow weary in doing well, we honestly do get weary. And we honestly begin not to care as much.
But again, God is not like us.
His thoughts are not like our thoughts.
And His ways are not like our ways.
God does not grow tired in caring about us.
He does not grow weary.
He never gives up.
And He will pursue us even until our last breath.
So when we can care less, God cares even the more.
1 Peter 5:7 says “casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].”
I love that…With deepest affection He cares about you. And He cares about me. And He is very carefully watching over you and me.
“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26 NKJV
“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” Matthew 6:29-31 NKJV
God cares for you. And we can’t do anything to keep Him from caring about us and caring for us.
And God never stops caring for us. Even when we could care less about Him…
So Lord help us to care like you do. To care about people in the way that you do. And help us to care about the things that you care about. The things that concern you and your kingdom. The things that matter to you. Show us and help us Lord. Because we want to be more like you Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
