God Over Everything – Choosing to Serve God
Have you ever been to a restaurant that you frequent and just stared at the menu like you’ve never been there before?
Just unable to decide what to get.
Like you already know what would be good and you already know what your favorite is on the menu.
But you kind of want to try something “new”.
Tell me what usually happens when you try something new on the menu?
Most often, it’s not what you were expecting and you wish you would’ve stuck with what you knew to be already good. Right?
But there are just soooo many choices these days.
And so many choices in life.
But THE most important choice that you can ever make in life is the one concerning your faith.
The choice to place God over everything. Choosing to serve God.
Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing. 1 Kings 18:21
So the people in Elijah’s day were undecided upon if they were going to serve the Lord or serve Baal as their God.
Baal represented a false god or an idol that the people were worshipping during that time. Today, we can say the “idols” of our day, are anything that we deem and/or place higher than the Lord in our life.
This could be our work, our goals, money. Even ministry and our family. Nothing should ever be placed higher than God.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:37-38 (KJV)
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
So this is the perfect time for us to search our hearts here. And pray Psalm 139:23-24 (KJV) as written by David.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
God is seeking those who will no longer hang out in the space in between. Between serving Him and serving other things.
He is seeking those who will say “the LORD is God, I will follow Him;“.
