I recently posted “Curl Wand Magic {Natural Hair Post}” featuring a head full of curls on my natural hair that only took 20 minutes. So as promised, here is my Hair Preparation for Curl Wand plus my actual hair wash routine minus the blow drying.

Hair Preparation for Curl Wand

Hair Preparation for Curl WandDetangle – First I detangled my hair by sectioning the hair into four (4) parts, working with one (1) section at a time using hair ties to secure the other sections. I used water-conditioner solution (1:1 Water to Conditioner) in spray bottle and sprayed the section of hair. Using a wide tooth comb, I detangled each section of hair.

Pre-poo – Pre-poo’ing is one of the best things that I could have ever added to my wash routine. My hair feels extra soft after shampooing. For pre-poo’ing, you simply add oil to your hair prior to shampooing. I use olive oil…it works well with my hair and it is inexpensive. The oil coats the hair such that when it is washed with shampoo, the hair is not completely stripped of needed moisture. See “5 Reasons You Should Pre-Poo“.

Hair Preparation for Curl WandWash – I washed my hair using Creme of Nature Sulfate-Free Moisture & Shine Shampoo.

Condition – I conditioned my hair using Creme of Nature Intensive Conditioning Treatment. Because my hair is super thick, I section off small pieces and applied the conditioner to each section. I actually left this conditioner in all day as a Wash and Go and washed the conditioner out the next day. Talking about super soft hair!

Protect – I used Creme of Nature Heat Defense Smooth & Shine protector after rinsing out the conditioner and prior to blow drying. I sectioned my hair into four sections. Working with one section at a time, applying the protectant.

Hair Preparation for Curl WandBlow Dry – I used my 1875 Ceramic Professional RED blow dryer with a comb attachment. This dryer has the ‘cool’ air option which I use after drying my hair to a semi dry state on the hot setting. I then use the cool air setting to seal the hair which reduces frizz. Of course, no heat is the best option for naturals. So if you are not a fan of the blow dryer…checkout “Three Ways To Stretch Hair Without Heat“.
