Week 16: Patience is a Virtue {Previous Weeks}

James 1:3-4 (AMP)
3 Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. 4 But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.

Some say patience is a virtue…but what does that really mean? Our dealings in patience is one of the toughest things that we experience in life. The ‘waiting’ teaches us things about ourselves; things that we may need to change…it works in us character and when we wait as we should wait, without murmuring and complaining, it works in us the mind of Christ.

So to answer the question, What does it mean to say Patience is a Virtue?…According to Webster’s dictionary, virtue means an example of moral excellence. To put that into context, now says that Patience is an example of moral excellence! No matter what you are waiting on whether a new job, new house, financial breakthroughs, healing…let your waiting work in you a spirit of excellence!

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

  1. Another great devotion – thanks. I am still kicking and screaming (most days) towards patience, some days to the point of exhaustion. Maybe one day I will figure out that God knows the plan and I should just do my best to follow it. Rough month. But, every morning is a fresh start!

      Thanks so much Lynne! I’m the same as you…I think we all are and although difficult; I know that we will live much more carefree lives if we trust God totally. I’m sorry that you’ve had a rough month. I’m pray that things are better for you!!
