I don’t know about you but I am tired of being on a health kick when it comes to my daily eating habits. It has seemingly been a struggle to consistently eat healthy, due mostly to the busy-ness of life that does not allow us to think about our food choices.

For me, having a plan works best for obtaining and maintaining any long-term goals. Several months ago, I started planning meals by doing a weekly menu for my family; listing the food groups such that we would have a balanced meal. And as I was researching, I found that having a balanced meal is the most effective way for maintaining healthy eating. So YAY, at least I was on the right track! The problem with the meal planning is that I would rarely have a food item listed for each group…whoops! So, I found ChooseMyPlate.gov on the USDA website which provides a wealth of information regarding food and nutrition as stated by the site…

MyPlate illustrates the five food groups that are the building blocks for a healthy diet using a familiar image—a place setting for a meal. Before you eat, think about what goes on your plate or in your cup or bowl.

This is a perfect tool for filling my meal planner. Just by simply looking at the illustration, tells me that I have it all wrong on most days! But, I believe that the tools on the MyPlate site will help with my long-term goals for planning healthy meals for me and my family.

I do believe in Divine Healthy and Healing based upon God’s Word but I also believe that we must do our part in living a healthy and fit lifestyle!

To consistently eat healthy, we MUST THINK about what are putting on our plates!

  1. Hmm… personally, I feel the grains portion should be smaller and the diary part optional/replaced with H20. So many people have issues digesting bread and milk that it would seem they aren’t something that should be meant for standard consumption. It’d probably save people a lot of digestive problems and bloating.

It’s funny how these things work though. Because I eat diary in exorbitant amounts and have no problem digesting it. On the other hand bread/noodles destroys me. Haha!

Tis very true about people’s digestive problems with bread and milk! I’m not too concerned with the exact portions as I am with wanting to eat a ‘balanced’ diet, including each food group into our meals. For me, more fruits, veggies and water are biggies! So interesting, as you’ve stated how it works!
